Intro Missions
The introduction to the game consists of 1 cutscene and 6 missions. This part of the game focuses on introducing the mechanics much like a regular GTA game alongside establishing the story of the mod.
#00 — The Story Begins...
This is the introductory cutscene which starts immediately after starting a new game.
2002, Liberty City.
We are introduced to the higher-ups of the Leone Crime Family – Joey Leone, the son of the deceased Don Salvatore Leone, and Toni Cipriani, the family's Capo. Toni escorts Joey to a container ship in Portland where the Leone are to strike a deal with the Colombian Cartel and insists that Joey go there alone. This turns out to be a trap laid out by Toni as the ship turns out to be empty and a bomb prematurely detonates aboard, making it appear like Joey died in the explosion but with him actually surviving. Toni assumes Joey to be dead, boasts about taking over the Leone Mafia as its new Don, and departs with his fellow traitors.
After a lengthy sequence of Joey walking in slow motion and describing the ways he's been screwed over and the stuff he experienced between III and right now, we gain control and are free to explore the snow-covered Liberty City. Worth noting that we are free to explore the entire LC from the get go, but the only real thing to do right now is our first mission.
#01 — Dealing With
We arrive at Toni's place to find Mickey Hamfists (or Micky, as the game spells it). He is surprised by Joey being alive and well, saying that he thought Joey had died to a bomb planted by the Colombians. Regardless of his confirmation that Toni has taken over the role of the Don, Mickey extends a helping hand and offers Joey a safehouse away from Toni's thugs. Speaking of which, the moment Mickey recalls having seen one of Toni's men somewhere in the district, Joey bolts off to kill the guy in question for his role in the conspiracy against him. Bloodlust or something.
The mission is very simple: we only have to kill this one goon. He is armed with a pistol and is located in an area added by the mod, accessible through a hole in the wall in the back alley of Sex Club 7. Once we do that, we unlock... the ability to save the game, and Ammu-Nation will now start selling the Pistol. Would've been a lot more useful if we didn't have a free pistol spawn in the courtyard of our safehouse. Oh well.
Reward: Access to safehouses, Pistol in stock at Ammu-Nation
#02 — Leftover
Right off the bat after picking up the mission we get scolded by Mickey for our rash actions. Toni does not have too many allies at the moment (which is kinda counter-intuitive; isn't he supposed to be the head of the organization now after that takeover of his?) so offing one of those few guys is bound to have attracted some unwanted attention. Mickey advises Joey to lay low and do some minor stuff in the meantime, starting with some work at Joey's Autos... But I thought we're Joey?
Our objective is to simply deliver a car in one piece to the Joey's Autos garage. The place turns out to have a new owner – kinda logical given how we've: 1) moved up the mafia hierarchy after our dad got offed in III; 2) recently died in an explosion as far as the rest of the world is concerned. We redress in our mechanic garbs and return to the sandbox with a few hundred bucks for a job well done.
Reward: $500
#03 — Errand Boy
You will not believe what we do in this mission... which is a very obvious joke about how we're literally an errand boy here. Our task is to deliver a bill to the Hepburn Heights apartment block, where we normally pick up Misty from in III. That's it.
This mission is laughably simple, but it introduces one of Frosted Winter's special gimmicks: Additional Mission Objectives. Some missions will contain AMOs for those looking for an extra challenge and/or a little bonus cash. AMOs are entirely optional and do not impact the game in any way beyond increasing the mission reward.
Reward: $500
AMO: "Deliver the bill in under 1m30s." = an additional $500
#04 — Car Thief
We steal three cars. Shocker, I know. Yeah, unfortunately this mod decides to take us through the boring minutiae of a regular low rank goon. We need to deliver three vehicles to the garage: an Idaho parked by the Punk Noodles joint in Portland View, an Esperanto located in Chinatown, and a Stallion waiting for us in Hepburn Heights.
AMO: "The less damage, the higher the reward".
Reward: Actually depends on car health; maximum $500 per car, so $1500 for delivering all cars in pristine condition
#05 — A Little Surprise
I wish I had some interesting commentary to provide here, but the Joey's Autos mission strand really isn't remarkable. It serves the purpose of being introductory missions for people unfamiliar with the mechanics, but mods are typically made for people who are already familiar with the games they're modding. Anyway, this mission is a retread of III's "Mike Lips' Last Lunch", except on the other side of Saint Mark's and with a Bobcat instead of an Idaho. Not much to add here, beyond the pager message after this mission throwing us back into the mafia intrigue for a bit.
You might notice that 8-Ball's garage contains a hidden package. These are truly invaluable in completing this mod, which I will elaborate upon in the next part.
Reward: $2000, Joey's Overalls outfit available at Joey's Autos
#06 — The Investigation is Over
Remember when Mickey scolded us for killing that one goon without a second thought? Yeah, apparently Toni caught wind of the guy going missing and has hired a pro investigator to find out what happened. We must put a stop to his efforts by putting a stop to his bloodline. Luckily for us, he's at a nearby gas station. The objective is to kill the guy as he's fleeing in a car. Not that hard, especially given how the snow physics make it easier to bump him off his course, which can open him up to getting pulled out of the car and killed that way.
Reward: None, except for the Uzi now being in stock at Ammu-Nation
Killing the investigator marks the end of the intro and puts us firmly in Act 1, where we go on a masquerading misadventure. Stay tuned for more! ...or just use this button to jump right in.
